Why do we still need to pay more attention to mental health issues?

Suicide is "the second cause of death among people from 10 to 34," while 46% of people who committed suicide had one or more diagnosed mental health illnesses, according to the latest report from National Alliance on Mental Illness. In 2018, only about 40% of U.S. adults with mental illnesses received treatment.

The chart shows the "prevalence of any mental illness among U.S. adults" in 2019, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Hence, there are many people who have mental health issues. But the attention we pay to the topic is far from enough. Suicide rate trend in Missouri

From this chart, it is apparent that the suicide rates underwent an increasing trend in both the U.S. and Missouri from 2006 to 2018. The suicide rates in Missouri were higher than the rates in the U.S. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, "one person died by suicide every eight hours" on average in Missouri in 2019. The number of deaths by suicide is around 1,150 in 2019, which ranked 18 among all states in the U.S. In Missouri, suicide is "the 10th leading cause of death."
